Substitute Teacher

Dexter is a PK-12 school for aspiring artists, scientists, and engineers. Our students and educators are motivated learners who bring a multitude of diverse and unique backgrounds to our community.
Dexter Substitute Teachers and Teaching Assistants (TAs) are based on-campus at our Speedway Ave school. Dexter Substitute Teachers and TAs provide detailed feedback on student assignments, tasks, and assessments. The nature of the student work is highly technical and requires a baseline understanding of mathematics, science, history, and English language arts. The ideal candidate will have a background in STEM and/or STEAM.

The position requires excellent written communication skills and the ability to explain concepts clearly to students, and interact with and oversee them on a daily basis.:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Maintain emotional control under stress
Ability to follow written instructions

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

-Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
-Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
-Maintain daily attendance in classroom(s) assigned.
-Implement lesson plans left by classroom teacher, or as assigned by campus administration.
-Maintain a professional relationship with campus staff.
-Be a positive role model for students.
-Support mission of school district.
